Parenting Time

PARENTING TIME

The State of Illinois, like most states, prefers that both parents be involved in a child’s life to help raise and guide them. Many child development studies show that having both parents in a child’s life is the best way to raise a healthy and happy child. However, having both parents have equal time or even shared time with a child is not going to make sense in every situation, and the family laws in Illinois understand that and provide a way to address those circumstances.

A parenting plan provides a specific schedule that the parents use to divide time between them, whether it is the result of a divorce or child custody arrangement. Parenting plans describe where the child will be and when, and they provide information about certain responsibilities for each parent as well. While most parenting plans are 50/50 plans, they have to be adjusted to make sense for the situation.

Linda S. Groezinger, Attorney at Law, can help parents create a parenting plan that works for their lives. When parents cannot agree, our office can bring the issue to the court to ask a judge to decide. However, working together is usually the best way for parents to create a parenting time plan that will actually work long-term.
